Learning aim D

I attended a trip to Teeside University in which there were multiple people related to media in someway. First we had a talk with a journalist from the SportsBible who spoke about how the Social Media business worked with journalism. He told us how he got into the role as a journalist and how he would recommend it to anyone. He spoke about having this job has given him a lot of security and no worry in not having work. Whereas if he was freelance he would most likely have a lot less work. He also mentioned how he gets to travel a lot for his job and enjoys it a lot. However, I not very interested in journalism or sports so I know this career isn't for me.

One person in the industry that I know well is Gilly Hope the BBC news presenter and journalist. She does the traffic for BBC Look North. She was my lecturer add Sunderland College where she teaches Media. We went on a trip as a class with her to the BBC Look North building and had a look at the ins and outs of the production of all BBC productions made in the North like The Dumpy Ground. We also seen the set of the Look North presenting room. It was a real eye opener for the behind the scenes of television. She got into the media industry by going through interviews and then one day by luck managed to get to be a journalist for the 2012 London Olympics. She spoke to us a lot about good ways to get jobs for example just being friends with someone in the industry and them recommending you for a job.

A close friend of mine is Jack O'Leary who is a freelance cinematographer. He hasn't been in the media industry long but he has accomplished a lot for his short time. He worked on the Netflix documentary 'Sunderland Till I Die' as a paid runner. The job came around by him messaging his University Lecturer about any jobs around in Sunderland and then the lecturer recommended him to try and interview for a role at the documentary. He has done filming for multiple companies around Sunderland and Durham. He is now also looking to be doing advertising for business in Sunderland.
