Storyboard assignment brief 1 unit 18
Film
The images show the rough designs of the X-Wings, Chewbacca, and Han Solo. It clearly shows that the film is sci-fi as in 'board 260' as you can see Space in the background.
In board 368 of Han and Chewbacca it is a 'medium close-up'. This board effectively shows the background of the ship, the design of the characters, and the expression of the characters. Then also in board 260 the X-Wing shows movement effectively as there is a 'blur' showing speed and that it's moving fast.
This scene shows the sound made when Spiderman punches Doctor Octopus should be a 'bam' sound, showing that Spiderman is fighting hard. It could also be a design choice based on the fact that Spiderman was originally a comic. Sound could also be shown in board 260 of Star Wars since it says 'overheard' it could be making a fly past sound like a 'zoom' or something similar.
This scene from Pyscho shows how transitions and edits should look in final production very well. It shows that it should be fast pace and cut really quick. It's clear they want to use lots of camera angles and cuts despite it only being a short scene.
These boards show directions and help visualize very well. Forest Gump's board is incredibly detailed showing what costume, background, and face expressions look like very well. Then Spiderman has an arrow showing his movement, 'lines of motion', and also 'wham' showing he is attacking. Then Star Wars describes movement for example 'Luke's X-Wing going overhead'.
The layout, style and format is very important to make sure you know the order for your film. The Green Hornet does this very well. They have the scene number, page number, and also board number. This helps make sure there are no mistakes in order, and also saves time trying to correctly piece together in post production.
Continuity is used throughout all storyboards. For example costumes (Spiderman), vehicle designs (Star Wars), and art style. It would be strange if they changed the way something looked throughout the storyboard.
Television
This story board effectively uses imagery to show how chaotic the scene is. The background has people panicking to run away, smoke, and fire. It also shows Dany's face expression being very intense.
In board 84d there is an arrow showing the movement of Dany getting onto the Dragon. The reason there is a arrow instead of showing her getting on frame by frame is because it saves time redrawing. Between 84d and scene 85 it goes from long shot to a close-up shot. This is done to effectively show Dany's expression in this scene. Also in board 65 it says 'Dany's pov' this shows that Dany is clearly the most important character in this scene and her pov is the most important. The high use of different shots, transitions, and pans will show off the detail in the scene.
The only use of sound in the boards is Dany saying 'fly' in Valerian. However, you can image there being lots of sound from the fact there are people running away. You can image lots of screaming and thuds from the Dragon landing and moving.
The editing seems to be pretty fast pace. Which is effective for an action sequence.
The style and layout of the storyboard is very clear and easy to understand. It has page number, board number, and also uses 1a, 1b, 1c system to show of a single board in more detail.
Videogames/animation
There are very few camera angles/shots used in this scene. However, the first few shots are close-up showing the characters expression very clearly. The angles are also eye level too. The rest of the scene there camera is locked in place watching the dinosaur run about and getting scared.
There are use of sound in these scenes. Like 'kilk!' when the dinosaur hit the grave. There also appears to be lines of sound coming out of his mouth, showing that he is screaming/yelping.
The storyboard shows whats going on in the scene very clearly. The dinosaur is clumsy and scared about his surroundings.
The layout is pretty basic but it's easy to understand its order. It just goes from left to right.
